Housing Program
Historically, housing has been a critical concern for persons with disabilities. Numerous public hearings, focus groups and needs assessments conducted with persons with disabilities have identified the lack of affordable, accessible, integrated housing as one of the biggest challenges they face. IndependenceFirst has received increasing requests for housing information and assistance. In developing our current strategic plan, housing was identified as a major issue to focus on and as such, we identified several specific objectives to work on related to housing. In particular, it is the overall desire of IndependenceFirst to work to increase the amount of affordable, accessible and integrated housing available in our community.
To address these goals, we have a Housing Policy Advocate. This position is responsible for activities to expand the housing choices of low- and moderate-income persons with disabilities in the Milwaukee area.
Funding is needed for staff salaries, program operations, and emergency assistance funds.
