Sports & Recreation Programs

IndependenceFirst Wheelchair Sports and Adaptive Recreation Programs exist in locations throughout the four county Milwaukee area for both youth and adults with disabilities of all kinds. Donations can be directed or applied to area of greatest need in facilities rental, replacement equipment, participant sponsorship, program outreach efforts, staffing and volunteer management activities.

Specific donations are currently needed for the following:

Hockey

Ice rink rental $250/session; $2,500/season
Replacement hockey sticks $50 each; $500/season
New street goal $50.00

Estimated Total Season Cost: $3,500

Basketball

Court rental $35/hr; $450/season
Replacement sports wheelchairs $1000/chair; $5000/5 chairs
Adapted basketball hoop $350
New scoreboard $80
Replacement balls $25 each; $100/season

Estimated Total Season Cost: $6,800

Waterskiing

Adaptive waterskis $4000 each
Boat usage $50/session; $500/season

Estimated Total Season Cost: $9,000

Downhill Skiing

Slope fees $5000/season; $500/1 full evening of skiing
$100/skier for season scholarship
$300 ski outriggers

Estimated Cost: Season Total $5,700

Sailing

Schooner rental ($2500/sail) which includes full sponsorship of 40 participants

Tennis

Court rental $170/hr; $1360/season
Ball machine $1300
Balls $60/season
