The Milwaukee Idea Home

The Milwaukee Idea Home is a collaborative project providing an innovative solution to the need for accessible, affordable, and energy efficient housing in Milwaukee. Partners in this project include We Energies, Metropolitan Milwaukee Sewerage District, UWM's School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and IndependenceFirst. The prototype house will be owned and operated by IndependenceFirst and serve as a transitional living environment for persons with disabilities. The home was intentionally designed to maximize accessibility in a small living space. We are seeking donations of new items or sponsorship to be used for the Milwaukee Idea Home. This house will assist people with disabilities by providing a fully-furnished, transitional residence when either moving out of a nursing home and back into the community while awaiting permanent housing, or waiting for accessibility modifications to be completed to their home after experiencing a traumatic injury or illness:

Kitchen: (Full Room Sponsorship: $1,000)
Or new Items needed In Kind:

  • Flatware (set of 8)
  • Cookware
  • Pot holders
  • Towels, etc.

2 Bathrooms: (Each Bathroom Room Sponsorship: $500)
Or new Items needed In Kind:

  • Towels
  • Shower curtain
  • Wastebasket, etc.

Living Room: (Sponsorship: $3,500) Or new Items needed In Kind:

  • Couch
  • Chairs
  • Tables
  • Television
  • VCR, Lamps, etc.

2 Bedrooms: (Each Bedroom Room Sponsorship: $1,500) Or new Items needed In Kind:

  • Bedding
  • Nightstand
  • Bed
  • Dresser, etc.

Outdoor: ($1000 needed) Or new Items needed In Kind:

  • Lawnmower
  • Snowblower
  • Shovel
  • Porch
  • Bench
